Crazy days...

Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday on Tuesday. It is even difficult for me to believe that I am already 23, and into my final semester at YSU. I guess I still think of myself as nothing more than a big kid, as opposed to one of those adult-type peoples.

Cool

Many exciting things have been happening in my life as of late. Last Friday I had a job interview with Tec, Inc. in Eastlake, OH and landed the job - my first day of work at the new engineering job is scheduled for June 5 (thanks again, Scott!). Soon I will begin the task of searching for an apartment closer to where I will work, and I am looking forward to being on my own, and also rooming with my friend Jason for a year. Above all, however, I am looking forward to the day of May 20, when YSU hands me that electrical engineering degree. Although on one hand the past five years have seemingly flown by, on the other hand it seems as if it has been a LONG five years, and I am anxious to be finished with the whole school thing. Perhaps I will further my education by working toward a masters degree (after having been at Tec for a few years), but at this point in the game I am in no such hurry to get that masters degree. I am ready to start a job in the industry and gain some valuable hands-on experience, which is something that unfortunately has not been a major focus of college.

What I will miss most about being at home: the people. My family and friends are very dear and important to me, and being further away from them will be rough. At the same time, however, I will only be little more than an hour away from home, which is still much closer than some place such as California, for example.

Classes have been fairly crazy, and it is difficult to comprehend that this semester is already 25% finished. My senior capstone design project has been interesting, to say the least. Jason and Jasen, the other two members in my group, have been working hard on getting things rolling for our robot, from design to implementation to programming. We began to design and construct a robot, with the original intention of entering it into the IEEE Region 2 Robotics Competition, which we recently learned is not happening this year. As a result, we are choosing to host our own small robotics competition here at YSU between the three teams who were originally planning to enter the IEEE competition. We have had some setbacks with our robot thus far, such as defective tracking sensors and a blown microprocessor chip, and we have been a bit slow in the design process. However, after meeting with Jason last night for dinner, we now seem to have a renewed focus and energy, and we spent the better part of an hour discussing design ideas and brainstorming.

As for the music end of things, not much of anything has been happening on that front. My hope is that after I graduate and get settled into my own place, and get comfortable with my new job and surroundings, I will have free time to focus on writing and recording some new music. At this point in time, all of the recording gear that I purchased in the past couple years is collecting dust. I rarely play guitar anymore, except for Saturday night and Sunday morning during our contemporary church services. This has allowed me to keep my chops intact, and I always enjoy working with other musicians.

In summary, the past several weeks have consisted of many "crazy days" as the title of this entry suggests. I also anticipate the next 4 months to consist of crazy days as graduation approaches, and especially as I look forward to and plan for the life-changing events that lie ahead.

Until next time!
